Basic Teachings of Hinduism
Brahman
The belief in Brahman or the eternal being that created and preserves the world, is among the most famous teachings of the religion Hinduism. Hindus believe that everything in world is an aspect of Brahman. In fact, Hindus believe that people themselves are aspects of Brahman.
Reincarnation
Hindus believe in reincarnation or the belief that the soul will be released from the body and later reborn. The nature of the person's next life is determined by their karma or the sum effect of his or her deeds and actions during life. The people that have behaved accordingly will be rewarded by being reborn into a higher life form of social classes. Those of which do not behave accordingly, will be reborn into a lower life form.
Dharma
A Hindu's Dharma is their set of spiritual duties and obligations that must be accomplished in life. If they are accomplished then the person will be well prepared for reincarnation, avoiding suffering and eventually breaking free from the cycle of rebirth.
Sacred Texts and Practices
Vedas
The Vedas is a book full of sacred hymns of praise. It is among the earliest sacred texts of Hinduism. Hindus believe that the Vedas contains eternal knowledge not writen by humans, but by Brahma.
Hindu Religious Practices
Yoga
Yoga is the integrated physical and mental exercises performed by Hindus to attain Moksha. Moksha is the escape from the cycle of rebirth. This picture shows a statue performing a yoga exercise.
