Hittite's Impact in Today's World
Iron
The Hettite' helped make a positive contribution to Near Eastern culture. They were the first people to actually master the skill of working with iron. They used the iron to make weapons, tools, and ornaments. Later, many people started using this technique to make tools and weapons as well.
Horse-Drawn Chariot
The Hettite's also helped start the use of war vehicles. They invented the horse-drawn chariot, which was slow and heavy, but allowed them to make a powerful impression when in war. Most chariots at this time only held 2 people, but this particular chariot could hold up to 3 people.
Spread of Cuneiform Writing
The Hittites also used the the Sumerian's form of writing called cuneiform. By using the same writing system, the Hittite's were helping to spread the importance of using writing to record important thoughts and ideas. Cuneiform was the beginning of writing, and both the Sumerian's and the Hettite's helped spread the idea of using a structured writing system.
